Backstory

Espe began life as a Tufted Capuchin Monkey, and was caught when she was quite young and sold as an exotic pet. She was kept inside on a chain and in small cages her entire life. Although she didn't remember any other kind of life, she longed for freedom, and regularly annoyed her owners with her trouble-making and disruptive antics. Due to her restrictive captivity, she also developed self-destructive tendencies, including repetitive behaviours and self-harm. As her mental health deteriorated, her confinement and isolation increased.

When she was almost thirty years old, she finally escaped. She ran into the jungle, but it had been far too long since she was taken. She had no idea how to survive in the wild. Although she was very clever, she was too old and the jungle was too overwhelming. She ended up wandering in circles until she was weak and hungry, and eventually settled in the shade at the heart of an old bamboo thicket. It was there that an older esk found her and transformed her.

Espe was not a settled spirit; she'd had too much frustration and distress in life, so she became a trespasser. While her time as an esk has allowed her to recapture some of her more friendly nature, she retains a deep hatred for everything from the developed biome, especially people, chains and cages. She enjoys tricks and pranks, and laughing at those in distress. To other animals and esks she's generally friendly, and although many would consider her incredibly annoying, it's mostly harmless.
