Backstory
Senna is old. Not as old as the land itself, but older than the desert, and the spinifex, and the ghost gums. Before his transformation, he was a Bullockornis planei, colloquially known as the thunderduck or demon duck of doom. Despite this name, he and his kind were largely herbivore - laid-back wanderers who called the semi-arid rivers of northern Australia their home. However, the regular flooding of these rivers was happening less and less, the grass and trees were changing and fires were tearing through his home more and more frequently.
Senna wandered far in search of more habitable environments. Not sociable by nature, and not easily disturbed, he followed dry rivers south and southwest, eating and drinking opportunistically. He was far from his native lands, in a red dirt country intersected by deep gorges, when Majanthi found him. She'd come south from the great deserts on other continents to explore her new territory, which was opening up as Australia became drier and more arid. She saw Senna's spirit, calm but hopelessly lost from his own kind and familiar environments, and offered to transform him. On the cusp of evening, just after the sun had set, and the clouds were aglow, Senna found himself in a new form, far larger than his previously intimidating body.
Senna retains his warmth and calm, wandering the red-dirt country of the Pilbara. He's at his most visible in the evening, just after sunset, and his power and elemental wane at other times of the day. For the most part he dozes, letting the sun warm his back and making himself home to numerous critters seeking shelter from the desert heat. He's frequently mistaken for just another hill or plateau.
